Yoga Movement Assessment

For our private clients, we offer a detailed Yoga Movement Assessment, which allows us to identify areas that are causing pain or restriction in poses and movement. This can be combined with musculoskeletal ultrasound to view all of the structures in the area, including bone, ligament, tendon, muscle and nerve to help identify the source of the issue. In many cases, the source will turn out to be a structural injury such as a rotator cuff tear, a nerve impingement or a fascial adhesion. With this combination of knowledge, we are able to design a plan of treatment and movement to help the body heal.

The plan may include individualized and group yoga, qigong, and pilates classes that promote generalized wellness as well as well as address the target areas. It may also include work with practitioners of Active Release Technique (ART), Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT), Chiropractic arts and therapeutic massage when appropriate. We have found that these therapies regenerate tissues and may prevent surgery while restoring the patient to normal function.

Often patients with problems also benefit from nerve hydrodissection, a technique used to free up pinched nerves to decrease pain and inflammation due to chronic nerve compression. Other regenerative therapies such as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), Placental Matrix and stem cells can also be employed to help the body heal and restore damaged tissues.
